Sirr Parker - Youth and High School

Youth and High School

Sirr Parker, raised in tough South Central Los Angeles, was abandoned by his mother and raised by his grandparents, and later went and stayed with his aunt and uncle. As a child, Parker and his infant brother Donyea lived with their aunt, while their mother struggled with alcoholism and drug abuse. Parker also became the Los Angeles Times player of the year, 1st team all-state and a second-team All-American pick by USA Today by leading the Los Angeles area in rushing (4,000 yards) and scoring (50 touchdowns) as a senior at Locke despite playing for a team that went 0-9 that season. He was also the homecoming king and an honor roll student with a 3.9 grade point average.

Famous quotes containing the words youth, high and/or school:

We live in an age when to be young and to be indifferent can be no longer synonymous. We must prepare for the coming hour. The claims of the Future are represented by suffering millions; and the Youth of a Nation are the trustees of Posterity.
    Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881)

Why does not the kitten betray some of the attributes common to the adult puss? A puppy is but a dog, plus high spirits, and minus common sense. We never hear our friends say they love puppies, but cannot bear dogs. A kitten is a thing apart; and many people who lack the discriminating enthusiasm for cats, who regard these beautiful beasts with aversion and mistrust, are won over easily, and cajoled out of their prejudices, by the deceitful wiles of kittenhood.
    Agnes Repplier (1858–1950)

    And Guidobaldo, when he made
    That grammar school of courtesies
Where wit and beauty learned their trade
    Upon Urbino’s windy hill,
Had sent no runners to and fro
That he might learn the shepherds’ will.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
