According to 2011 census, b Sirkazhi had a population of 34,880 comprising of 17,217 males and 17,663 females. As of 2001, Sirkazhi had a population of 32,228, of which 51% were males and 49% were females, leading to a sex ratio of 990. The average literacy rate of the town was 84.98%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80.1% and female literacy is 69.6%. 13.39% of the population was under 6 years old. 25.62% of the population belonged to Scheduled Castes (SC) and 0.13% belonged to Scheduled Tribes (ST). The town had 31.08% workers: 26.39% main workers, 4.94% main cultivators and 18.48% agricultural labourers. 0.88% were employed in household industries, 75.7% of other main workers, 4.69% of marginal workers, 2.38% of main cultivators, 51.95% agricultural labourers, 1.85% workers in marginal household industries and 43.81% of other marginal workers. The town had a total of 7,210 households. Overall, 30% are involved in primary, 10% in secondary and 60% in teritiary sectors.
