Lindsay announced in March 1963 that he would leave politics at the next election, stating his intention to take life easier. He abstained rather than support Macmillan on the Profumo Affair, Early in 1964 he called for an inquiry into the Public Trust Office, after discovering that it had lost a large sum of money in investments.
