Sir John A. Macdonald High School

Sir John A. Macdonald High School is a Canadian high school serving the western suburbs of Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality -- namely the communities of Beechville, Lakeside, Timberlea and Tantallon. Sir John A's feeder schools are Five Bridges Junior High School and Ridgecliff Middle School.

The original Sir John A. Macdonald High School was built in the 1960s. The mascot is the "Flame," hence the team name "Sir John A. Flames." The new complex finished construction in 2007.

The old building for the school was located in the Hubley section of the HRM district. The new Sir John A Macdonald High School is located in Tantallon. The old school is now called Five Bridges Junior High School. The new school was opened in 2006.

The school's former principal, Terry Wadden, had his first year at Sir John A during the 2005-2006 school year. Previously he was the principal of Ridgecliff Middle School, accompanied by Ms. Judy Reynolds.

Famous quotes containing the words sir, high and/or school:

There are a sort of men whose visages
Do cream and mantle like a standing pond,
And do a willful stillness entertain,
With purpose to be dressed in an opinion
    Of wisdom, gravity, profound conceit,
As who should say, “I am Sir Oracle,
And when I ope my lips let no dog bark!”
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

We do not prove the existence of the poem.
It is something seen and known in lesser poems.
It is the huge, high harmony that sounds
A little and a little, suddenly,
By means of a separate sense. It is and it
    Is not and, therefore, is.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

Today, only a fool would offer herself as the singular role model for the Good Mother. Most of us know not to tempt the fates. The moment I felt sure I had everything under control would invariably be the moment right before the principal called to report that one of my sons had just driven somebody’s motorcycle through the high school gymnasium.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
