Sir Henry's - Early Years

Early Years

Sir Henrys was a rock bar for many of its early years, a large video screen in front of the stage showed rock videos for customers. It also served food for a period of time from its small kitchen before this was closed in favour of additional bar space and cloakroom facilities.

Many of Ireland's up and coming young bands performed here and the 'Battle of the Bands' was held there for many years where uinsigned talent competed for a lucrative recording contract. Many famous artists performed there over these years including the late Phil Lynott, John Martyn's folk-inspired electric and acoustic sets, ex-Clash Mick Jones' Big Audio Dynamite, The Pogues and The Sisters of Mercy under their pseudonym "Speed Kings".

On August 20, 1991, Sir Henry's hosted Sonic Youth who were supported by the then virtually unknown band Nirvana.

Famous quotes related to early years:

If there is a price to pay for the privilege of spending the early years of child rearing in the driver’s seat, it is our reluctance, our inability, to tolerate being demoted to the backseat. Spurred by our success in programming our children during the preschool years, we may find it difficult to forgo in later states the level of control that once afforded us so much satisfaction.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
