Singapore Portrait Series Currency Notes

The Portrait Series of currency notes is the fourth and current set of notes to be issued for circulation in Singapore. It was first introduced on 9 September 1999 by the Board of Commissioners of Currency Singapore (BCCS) whose role was since taken over by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) post-merger.

This series features the portrait of Encik Yusof bin Ishak, the first president of Singapore. The design has been simplified and a whole range of new security features were introduced. Polymer versions of this series were released for general circulation by MAS as of 4 May 2004.

One of the reforms to be carried out during the incoming administration is a change in our monetary and banking laws, so as to secure greater elasticity in the forms of currency available for trade and to prevent the limitations of law from operating to increase the embarrassment of a financial panic.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you—like music to the musician or Marxism to the Communist—or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)
