Singapore Broadcasting Corporation

Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (Abbreviation: SBC; Singapore Mandarin: 新加坡廣播局 (Abbreviation: 新廣); Malaysian: Perbadanan Penyiaran Singapura; Indonesian: Perusahaan Penyiaran Singapura) was a partially privatised mass market media conglomeration, which dominated the television and radio broadcasting industry in Singapore during its existence. Prior to the liberalisation of the broadcasting industry, SBC holds a virtual monopoly in Singapore in the broadcasting industry. SBC emerged on 1 February 1980 from the former government owned Radio and Television of Singapore (RTS) on 15 February 1963.

SBC had since became the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS), Radio Corporation of Singapore (RCS) and Singapore Television Twelve (STV12) under a privatisation exercise on 1 October 1994 and subsequently MediaCorp TV owner by MediaCorp on 12 February 2001 after the Singapore International Media (SIM Group of Companies) based parent by Singapore International Television (SIM) becomes the Media Corporation of Singapore (MediaCorp Singapore) on 1 January 1999.
