Simon Cohen - Career

Career

After the September 11 attacks on the United States, Simon Cohen founded global tolerance to combat what he saw as irresponsible reporting on Muslims. The communication agency describes its mission as the use of PR and communications to harness the power of the media for positive social change. Cohen believes firmly in the power of faith, and has described its potential to help people in a range of situations.

Simon has since conducted media consultancy for the Dalai Lama, the Prince of Wales, Rajmohan Gandhi (grandson of the Mahatma), the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, among others.

Cohen has spoken at symposia such as the Caux Conference, Martin Luther King International Chapel, Council on American Islamic Relations, and John Marshall Law School’s Media Perceptions of Islam. He has spoken on media ethics and on religion in the media at international events including the Economic Forum in Poland and the World Spirit Forum in Arosa.

Cohen serves as media advisor and on the steering committee for the International Communications Forum, which promotes the ethical role of the media in society.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

John Brown’s career for the last six weeks of his life was meteor-like, flashing through the darkness in which we live. I know of nothing so miraculous in our history.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was. Some major form of recognition seems to have to mark a woman’s career for her to be able to go out on a limb without having her credentials questioned.
    Ruth Behar (b. 1956)

What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partner’s job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
