Silver Cyanide - Reactions

Reactions

AgCN precipitates upon the addition of sodium cyanide to a solution containing Ag+. The precipitate dissolves upon the addition of further amounts of cyanide to form linear -(aq) and 2-(aq) on the addition of further cyanide. Silver cyanide is also soluble in solutions containg other ligands such as ammonia or tertiary phosphines.

Silver cyanides form structurally complex materials upon reaction with other anions. Some silver cyanides are luminescent.

Famous quotes containing the word reactions:

Separation anxiety is normal part of development, but individual reactions are partly explained by experience, that is, by how frequently children have been left in the care of others.... Cathy Rindner Tempelsman (20th century)

    James Baldwin (1924–1987)

Prolonged, indiscriminate reviewing of books is a quite exceptionally thankless, irritating and exhausting job. It not only involves praising trash but constantly inventing reactions towards books about which one has no spontaneous feeling whatever.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)
