Silje Nergaard - Career

Career

Nergaard entered the music scene at the age of 16, and her first hit single "Tell Me Where You're Going" made it to no. 1 in Japan as well as top 10 in Norway, the United Kingdom and other countries. Her album At First light (2001) is the best sold Norwegian jazz album ever that has entered the official sales chart in Norway at no 1 in its first week. The album A Thousand True Stories that Nergaard recorded with the Metropole Orchestra of the Netherlands in 2008 was a great success in both Europe and Asia. Nergaard is one of the few Norwegian artists to have been commercially released all around the globe, on most continents and major music markets including Japan, Brazil, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Nergaard has recorded and performed songs with Al Jarreau, Pat Metheny, Toots Thielemanns, Morten Harket of A-ha and many more. She has had Tord Gustavsen and Jarle Vespestad as two pillars in her bands. Vince Mendoza received a Grammy Nomination for the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) Award for the song "A Thousand True Stories" in 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows what’s good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)

Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

In time your relatives will come to accept the idea that a career is as important to you as your family. Of course, in time the polar ice cap will melt.
    Barbara Dale (b. 1940)
