Signature Sounds Recordings is an independent record label specializing in singer-songwriter, Americana, and modern folk music. Jim Olsen and Mark Thayer founded the label in 1995 to promote the acoustic artists playing in the Northampton, Massachusetts music scene. The label has served as the career launching pad for several important singer-songwriters including Josh Ritter, Erin McKeown, Mary Gauthier & Lori McKenna. Presently the label's catalog includes over 70 albums distributed in the U.S. by Koch Entertainment, in Canada by True North Records and throughout the U.K. and Europe by Rounder Europe. The label's main office recently moved from its original location in Whately, Massachusetts to a more prominent site in downtown Northampton. The new offices include an intimate music venue, called The Parlor Room, in which concerts are held regularly.
Thayer previously established the Signature Sounds Recording Studio in 1982. The studio in Pomfret, Connecticut has recorded numerous folk and jazz musicians including many of the Signature Sounds recordings.

Famous quotes containing the words signature, sounds and/or recordings:
“The childless experts on child raising also bring tears of laughter to my eyes when they say, I love children because theyre so honest. There is not an agent in the CIA or the KGB who knows how to conceal the theft of food, how to fake being asleep, or how to forge a parents signature like a child.”
—Bill Cosby (20th century)
“For sounds in winter nights, and often in winter days, I heard the forlorn but melodious note of a hooting owl indefinitely far; such a sound as the frozen earth would yield if struck with a suitable plectrum, the very lingua vernacula of Walden Wood, and quite familiar to me at last, though I never saw the bird while it was making it.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“All radio is dead. Which means that these tape recordings Im making are for the sake of future history. If any.”
—Barré Lyndon (18961972)
