Man of The Match Awardees and Top Scorers
The accolade of Man of the Match or Player of the Tournament dates at least from the 1980's. The "Player of the Tournament" was not always from the winning team, e.g., 1983/84. Top scorer refers to the player with the highest points tally on the winning side.

Famous quotes containing the words man of the, man, match and/or top:
“Public opinion contains all kinds of falsity and truth, but it takes a great man to find the truth in it. The great man of the age is the one who can put into words the will of his age, tell his age what its will is, and accomplish it. What he does is the heart and the essence of his age, he actualizes his age. The man who lacks sense enough to despise public opinion expressed in gossip will never do anything great.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
“When and under what conditions is the black man to have a free ballot? When is he in fact to have those full civil rights which have so long been his in law?”
—Benjamin Harrison (18331901)
“When they turn the sun
on again Ill plant children
under it, Ill light up my soul
with a match and let it sing....”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“A man who graduated high in his class at Yale Law School and made partnership in a top law firm would be celebrated. A man who invested wisely would be admired, but a woman who accomplishes this is treated with suspicion.”
—Barbra Streisand (b. 1942)
