Shripad Mahadev Mate

Shripad Mahadev Mate (Devanagari: श्रीपाद महादेव माटे) (1886–1957) was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India.

Mate served for some years as a teacher at Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya and then as a professor at S. P. College, both in Pune.

Himself belonging to the Brahmin class in Hinduism, Mate headed an Asprusya Niwarak Mandal (अस्पृश्य निवारक मंडळ) aimed at abolishing untouchability in traditional Hindu culture of his times.

Mate undertook writing rather late in his life at age 44, but then during the next 25 years, he wrote material occupying over 10,000 printed pages on a variety of topics, including short stories powerfully bringing out the harsh lives of the downtrodden dalits, biographies, historical research, and current events.

Mate presided over Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (मराठी साहित्य सम्मेलन) at Sangli in 1943. He wrote deshodeshiche dyaneshwar in shityamanjiri which is an excellent account of all great people across the world.
