Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus (Cleveland, Ohio) - Architecture

Architecture

In August, 1881, Janietz secured a site, at north-east corner of the intersection of Forman St. and Tod (East 65th) St., in southern part of Cleveland, where most of the Poles had settled in close proximity to the rolling mills, where many of them had found employment.

The property cost $3,000, and comprised thirteen lots, forming a square plat of land, with ample room for all the parish buildings.

Famous quotes containing the word architecture:

All architecture is great architecture after sunset; perhaps architecture is really a nocturnal art, like the art of fireworks.
    Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874–1936)

Art is a jealous mistress, and if a man have a genius for painting, poetry, music, architecture or philosophy, he makes a bad husband and an ill provider, and should be wise in season and not fetter himself with duties which will embitter his days and spoil him for his proper work.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
