Short Sharp Shocked

Short Sharp Shocked is an album by Michelle Shocked. It is her second album, released in 1988 (see 1988 in music). It was remastered and reissued in 2003 as a two-CD set by Shocked's own label, Mighty Sound. The title is a combination of her last name, and the behavioral science phrase short, sharp shock meaning "punishment that is quick and severe." The title was inspired by both "A Clockwork Orange" and by Shocked's alleged but now questioned incarceration in a psychiatric ward.

Famous quotes containing the words short, sharp and/or shocked:

The absence of the beloved, short though it may last, always lasts too long.
    Molière [Jean Baptiste Poquelin] (1622–1673)

For most men, and most circumstances, pleasure—tangible material prosperity in this world—is the safest test of virtue. Progress has ever been through the pleasures rather than through the extreme sharp virtues, and the most virtuous have leaned to excess rather than to asceticism.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

I went to my father’s at night. He spoke of poor John [Boswell’s brother] with disgust. I was shocked and said, “He’s your son, and God made him.” He answered very harshly, “If my sons are idiots, can I help it?”
    James Boswell (1740–1795)
