Short Sharp Shocked

Short Sharp Shocked is an album by Michelle Shocked. It is her second album, released in 1988 (see 1988 in music). It was remastered and reissued in 2003 as a two-CD set by Shocked's own label, Mighty Sound. The title is a combination of her last name, and the behavioral science phrase short, sharp shock meaning "punishment that is quick and severe." The title was inspired by both "A Clockwork Orange" and by Shocked's alleged but now questioned incarceration in a psychiatric ward.

Famous quotes containing the words short, sharp and/or shocked:

    Baptiste knew how to make a short job long
    For love of it, and yet not waste time either.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

    I would have broke mine eye-strings, cracked them, but
    To look upon him, till the diminution
    Of space had pointed him sharp as my needle;
    Nay, followed him till he had melted from
    The smallness of a gnat to air, and then
    Have turned mine eye and wept.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    I have very lately read the Prince of Abyssinia [Samuel Johnson’s Rasselas]MI am almost equally charmed and shocked at it—the style, the sentiments are inimitable—but the subject is dreadful—and, handled as it is by Dr. Johnson, might make any young, perhaps old, person tremble—O heavens! how dreadful, how terrible it is to be told by a man of his genius and knowledge, in so affectingly probable a manner, that true, real happiness is ever unattainable in this world!
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)
