Shipserv

ShipServ is a maritime e-market place and information technology services company located in London, UK.

ShipServ was founded in 1999 by Paul Ostergaard on the idea of using the Internet to enable maritime shipping companies to improve the buying of ship supplies and spares. In its early days ShipServ was a co-founder of the Maritime E-Commerce Association (MECA), the not-for-profit organisation that governs the MTML (Marine Trading Mark-up Language) standard.

ShipServ's core product is called TradeNet which connects a buyer's purchasing system with their suppliers. In July 2012, according to its website, the company numbered 175 shipowners and 3rd party shipmanagers as customers, connecting them with 12,500 suppliers, totaling around $2.2bn in trading per annum. In early 2012, according to the company, TradeNet processed its 20 millionth transaction

In 2006 ShipServ launched ShipServ Pages - an on-line global directory of ship suppliers. Currently more than 40,000 maritime suppliers are listed on ShipServ Pages. In 2012 ShipServ launched a new reporting tool to enable suppliers to measure all their activity on both ShipServ Pages and ShipServ TradeNet.

The company is privately owned, and venture backed. In 2007 the company gained a further round of funding from Wellington Partners, and increased its workforce from 50 to nearly 120 people. The company has operations in 9 countries, with its largest office being in Manila, The Philippines.

In September 2011, the company was chosen in the Telegraph 1000 Britain's Brightest Businesses.
