The LSM-1-class Landing Ship Medium (LSM-H) were amphibious assault ships designed to carry men and vehicles onto a hostile shore. They were 530-ton, 203-foot (62 m) vessels, with a crew of 58, and a top speed of 13.3 knots (24.6 km/h; 15.3 mph). In this case they were modified to act as hospital ships.

Famous quotes containing the word hospital:

Time rushes toward us with its hospital tray of infinitely varied narcotics, even while it is preparing us for its inevitably fatal operation.
    Tennessee Williams (1914–1983)

The church is a sort of hospital for men’s souls, and as full of quackery as the hospital for their bodies. Those who are taken into it live like pensioners in their Retreat or Sailor’s Snug Harbor, where you may see a row of religious cripples sitting outside in sunny weather.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
