Sherwood High School (Oregon) - Aaron J. Contreras Stadium

Aaron J. Contreras Stadium

In 2004, the Sherwood High School stadium was renamed “The Aaron J. Contreras Memorial Stadium.” Aaron played football, basketball and baseball at Sherwood High School and later graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., before joining the Marines. Captain Contreras died in 2003 while serving as a helicopter pilot on military duty in Iraq.

On April 2, 2003, The Oregonian published an article honoring Aaron’s life and achievements. Quoting that article, the news of Aaron’s death “…proved devastating in Sherwood, where Contreras family members are regarded as community stalwarts.” Edward Contreras, Aaron’s father, said that Aaron “…loved God, he loved his wife and children, and he lived the kind of life he believed in. He was a fine young man.” Rick Hassmann, a Sherwood school administrator when Contreras was a student body officer, remembered that Aaron “…always had a smile on his face. He was never down. He was that kind of kid.” To honor Aaron and his family and to learn more about this well-loved and respected young man.

Aaron J. Contreras Stadium holds 2000 people but for home Football games it averages 3000 people.

Aaron will always be a member of the Bowmen Family. Sherwood football has retired his number 28
