Odyssey of The Mind
One of Sherburne-Earlville's extracurricular strong points is its participation in the Odyssey of the Mind problem-solving program. The students that participate in the program are known for putting in long hours (up to as much as 400 in a season) in order to perfect the 8 minute solution required by the program. The school frequently sends teams to the international-level finals competition (requiring a team to finish first at the regional-level competition and first or second in the state-level competition). Between the late 1990s and the present, Sherburne-Earlville teams advancing to World Finals has gone from being a very rare occurrence to the norm.

Famous quotes containing the word mind:
“The bourgeois treasures nothing more highly than the self.... And so at the cost of intensity he achieves his own preservation and security. His harvest is a quiet mind which he prefers to being possessed by God, as he prefers comfort to pleasure, convenience to liberty, and a pleasant temperature to that deathly inner consuming fire.”
—Hermann Hesse (1877–1962)
