Sherborne Girls - Houses

Houses

The house system is primarily based on the boarding houses as most girls are boarders. The girls are divided into seven boarding houses regardless of whether they are boarding or day pupils. Approximately 10% are day pupils but they are fully integrated and encouraged to participate in weekend activities.

There are seven boarding houses on campus:

  • Aldhelmsted East (AE)
  • Aldhelmsted West (AW) (Lower fourth and upper fourth ages 11 to 13)
  • Dunholme (DH)
  • Kenelm (K)
  • Mulliner (M) (upper sixth)
  • Reader Harris (RH) (formerly Eahlstan (E) and Thurstan (T))
  • Wingfield-Digby (WD) (formerly Aylmar (A) and Wingfield (W))

Famous quotes containing the word houses:

He hung out of the window a long while looking up and down the street. The world’s second metropolis. In the brick houses and the dingy lamplight and the voices of a group of boys kidding and quarreling on the steps of a house opposite, in the regular firm tread of a policeman, he felt a marching like soldiers, like a sidewheeler going up the Hudson under the Palisades, like an election parade, through long streets towards something tall white full of colonnades and stately. Metropolis.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
    Bible: Hebrew, Exodus 12:7.

Trust him to have his bitter politics
    Against his unacquaintances the rich
Who sleep in houses of their own, though mortgaged.
Conservatives, they don’t know what to save.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
