Sheffield Canal - The End in Sight

The End in Sight

In early July 1980 the Sheffield Canal received its first commercial cargo in 10 years but this was not a beginning, more a finale. Plans were put forward in the early 1980s by both the Sheffield City Council and British Waterways. The decision from the Environment Minister was eagerly awaited and it was not until the 1990s that the canal basin was restored and renamed Victoria Quays.

Famous quotes containing the words the end and/or sight:

The body was still resting on its legs, leaning against the end of the side of the bed, while one of the arms was close clasped round the bed-post. The mouth was rigidly closed, but the eyes were open as though staring at him.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

    He’s not out
seeing a sight but the rock
crystal thing to see—the startling El Greco
    brimming with inner light—that
covets nothing that it has let go. This then you may know
    as the hero.
    Marianne Moore (1887–1972)
