Snooker

When a player has cards in his hand that should take a trick (i.e. two trump to the Queen of Spades), but his poor play resulted in not taking a trick, the player has been snookered. For example, The picker has the Queen of Clubs and the Queen of Hearts. Dave has the Seven of Diamonds and the Queen of Spades. The picker leads the Queen of Hearts. Dave plays the Seven of Diamonds. The picker takes the trick, and leads back the Queen of Clubs. Dave is forced to play the Queen of Spades. Dave has now been snookered. Had Dave played the Queen of Spades on the first trick Dave would have taken a trick. But he was outwitted by the picker, and took no tricks as a result. Hence, a snooker.
