Shecky's Girls' Night Out

Hoffman grew Shecky's into a multi-million dollar women-centric media company featuring his now-famous Girls' Night Out events currently held in 12 major cities across the country, attracting tens of thousands of women attendees per year. In addition, Hoffman's website, www.sheckys.com has become the "go to" resource for young fashionistas around the country.

Manhattan entrepreneur Chris Hoffman started Shecky's in 1998 while working as a commodities trader on Wall Street. What started out as a publishing company featuring the Shecky's Nightlife Guides, took on a life of its own after Hoffman threw a launch party for one of his Shecky's book "Pretty in the City." The event featured New York City's emerging fashion talents, who set up shop to sell their latest designs.

The popularity of the event inspired Hoffman to create "Shecky's Girls' Night Out" events, first in New York, and now in 12 major cities nationwide. Shecky's "GNO" attracts tens of thousands of women per year who come to shop, enjoy delicious free cocktails and hang out with their girlfriends.

As Founder and CEO of Shecky's, Inc., Hoffman now leads a 25+ mostly female staff who identify the latest trends in fashion, fun and beauty and then interpret those trends for the Shecky's audience through emerging fashion designers who sell their products at Girls' Night Out events in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Miami and beyond.

Hoffman's vision has inspired budget-conscious style setters to come and enjoy the latest fashion trends while sipping free cocktails with their girlfriends. Shecky's Girls' Night Out has become a wildly popular "phenomenon" that sets the bar for the beauty industry.

Chris was born in Brooklyn, and moved to Manhattan with his family when he was 16 years old in 1984. He attended SUNY-Purchase where he studied photography and music until he left to pursue a job on Wall Street. The name “Shecky’s” comes from a nickname given to Hoffman during his early Wall Street days, reminiscent of comedian Shecky Green. Shecky's began as publishing company, featuring bar and city guides. The series quickly became popular in Manhattan with its no-nonsense write-ups of local nightlife haunts. The Zagat-style Shecky’s books, and online nightlife content became a trusted resource for twenty-something bar and club-goers in New York City.

Over the years, Hoffman continued to expand Shecky’s Girls’ Night Out, and Beauty Week, attracting sponsors looking to advertise to the Shecky’s audience. Shecky’s now holds its Girls’ Night Out in 14 cities across the country, attended by 150,000 women annually. The New York event is held in Manhattan's landmark Puck Building.

In 2006, Shecky's opened a fashion boutique in Manhattan's Lower East Side, named Shecky's Shop.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under men’s reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

Classes struggle, some classes triumph, others are eliminated. Such is history; such is the history of civilization for thousands of years.
    Mao Zedong (1893–1976)

A man acquainted with history may, in some respect, be said to have lived from the beginning of the world, and to have been making continual additions to his stock of knowledge in every century.
    David Hume (1711–1776)
