American Idol alumni William Hung auditioned for the third season of the series in San Francisco in September 2003 by performing the song. Although he didn't make it to the next round, he had already garnered a cult following after the audition and received a record deal from Koch Entertainment where he released three albums; the first album, Inspiration included "She Bangs".

A music video for the song was made to promote the album. Directed by Jeff Richter (who also appears in the video as one of the members of the production team), the video depicts a news coverage with two reporters from separate networks outside the Mayan Theater where the video shoot is being held: David Yuri from the fictitious KDD-TV and Jason Feinberg from the E!. William pulls up to the theater in a vehicle with the license plate titled "I ♥ FUSE". He meets with Joey the "record company guy", who introduces to him his "new girlfriend" (played by actress Amanda Swisten). The video than adopts a 'behind the scenes' style as the video is being made with the production team being seen throughout and shots being interrupted. The video spoofs two Ricky Martin videos, the aforementioned title and "Livin' la Vida Loca". The video concludes after the end of the 'raining in the streets' scene, with William having had enough of the shoot and asking for his backpack back. Amanda asks him what about her and replies "Your not my real girlfriend anyway. Sorry", with Amanda replying back "Sorry? Whatever" as he leaves with someone not seen in the video telling him to come back for one more shot.
