Nuns
There are two Catholic religious institutes of nuns on Shaw: the Order of the Benedictines—who run a monastery, Our Lady of the Rock—and the Sisters of Mercy.
Nuns of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist ran the island's only store and the ferry terminal for more than two decades until 2004, when they left the island, selling the store and small marina to a couple that has lived on Shaw since 1995.
