Shaped Compact Disc - History

History

The Flaming Lips released a CD single entitled "This Here Giraffe" on the world's first ever star-shaped CD. It was in the shape of an 8-pointed star. Another shaped CD includes the North American release of the soundtrack to the Nintendo 64 game Yoshi's Story, named Music to Pound the Ground To, was shaped to outline the print on the disc, Yoshi's face and a few things (like fruit) in the background.

An additional example is the live EP Alive in Torment released by symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir. The disc is shaped like a skull.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Only the history of free peoples is worth our attention; the history of men under a despotism is merely a collection of anecdotes.
    —Sébastien-Roch Nicolas De Chamfort (1741–1794)

Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.
    William Faulkner (1897–1962)

The history of work has been, in part, the history of the worker’s body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers’ intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.
    Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
