Planned Film Adaptation
The rights to a movie adaptation for all of the Shannara novels were sold to Warner Bros until August 2010. The Elfstones of Shannara, the first planned movie, was to be filmed and directed by Mike Newell, who was also responsible for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and more recently Prince of Persia.
Since the initial offer made to Warner Bros., a script was bought, potential actors reviewed, and assurances made that the movie would indeed be produced. To date, the rights to Warner Bros. for the production of the movie have expired. Mike Newell, the director announced to produce the movie, disappeared from the project and began work on Prince of Persia.
Terry Brooks himself has expressed frustration and a desire to see an adaptation. He stated that there is still interest by other parties to produce the movies, but as of yet he still holds all creative rights to his books.

Famous quotes containing the words planned, film and/or adaptation:
“The greatest events occur without intention playing any part in them; chance makes good mistakes and undoes the most carefully planned undertaking. The worlds greatest events are not produced, they happen.”
—G.C. (Georg Christoph)
“The womans world ... is shown as a series of limited spaces, with the woman struggling to get free of them. The struggle is what the film is about; what is struggled against is the limited space itself. Consequently, to make its point, the film has to deny itself and suggest it was the struggle that was wrong, not the space.”
—Jeanine Basinger (b. 1936)
“The real security of Christianity is to be found in its benevolent morality, in its exquisite adaptation to the human heart, in the facility with which its scheme accommodates itself to the capacity of every human intellect, in the consolation which it bears to the house of mourning, in the light with which it brightens the great mystery of the grave.”
—Thomas Babington Macaulay (18001859)
