Shakhbut Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (ca. 1905–February 11, 1989) was the eldest son of Sheikh Sultan II bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1928 to 1966. He succeeded his uncle Sheikh Saqr I bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 1928. Sheikh Shakhbut was the ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi until August 6, 1966 when he was deposed in a bloodless coup by the British-led Omani Trucial Scouts to the benefit of his brother Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyanwho became the emir of Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Shakhbut was escorted to his plane to London by the Scouts, after which he went to Lebanon where he stayed there reportedly until the mid-1980s, when he was allowed back in Abu Dhabi by his Brother H.H.Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who had become in 1971 the President of the federation of the United Arab Emirates.
