Students
The school currently has roughly 1,187 students enrolled, from ages 10 to 19.
Sha Tin College is a private comprehensive school, thus does not accept students from an academic perspective, but those who are already fluent in English, or those who cannot attend local schools. The student population and demographics are predominantly Asian – notably middle-upper class Hong Kongers with dual nationality – when compared with other international schools.
Students from the New Territories and North Kowloon are generally assigned to this school, with the exception of Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay.

Famous quotes containing the word students:
“We are students of words: we are shut up in schools, and colleges, and recitation-rooms, for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bag of wind, a memory of words, and do not know a thing.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“We must continually remind students in the classroom that expression of different opinions and dissenting ideas affirms the intellectual process. We should forcefully explain that our role is not to teach them to think as we do but rather to teach them, by example, the importance of taking a stance that is rooted in rigorous engagement with the full range of ideas about a topic.”
—bell hooks (b. 1955)
“Teaching Black Studies, I find that students are quick to label a black person who has grown up in a predominantly white setting and attended similar schools as not black enough. ...Our concept of black experience has been too narrow and constricting.”
—bell hooks (b. c. 1955)
