Sextette - Box Office and Critical Reception

Box Office and Critical Reception

Upon its premiere, most critics panned the film. Variety dubbed it "a cruel, unnecessary and mostly unfunny musical comedy." The New York Times called Sextette "embarrassing", and that "Granny should have her mouth washed out with soap, along with her teeth." Film critics Vincent Canby and Rex Reed also gave the film negative reviews.

Sextette earned $31,000 in its first week, largely due to West's appearance at the premiere. The film went on to earn about $20,000 in the United States before being pulled from theaters.

Famous quotes containing the words box, office, critical and/or reception:

Nobody has ever before asked the nuclear family to live all by itself in a box the way we do. With no relatives, no support, we’ve put it in an impossible situation.
    Margaret Mead (1901–1978)

If suffering brought wisdom, the dentist’s office would be full of luminous ideas.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

The disaster ... is not the money, although the money will be missed. The disaster is the disrespect—this belief that the arts are dispensable, that they’re not critical to a culture’s existence.
    Twyla Tharp (b. 1941)

I gave a speech in Omaha. After the speech I went to a reception elsewhere in town. A sweet old lady came up to me, put her gloved hand in mine, and said, “I hear you spoke here tonight.” “Oh, it was nothing,” I replied modestly. “Yes,” the little old lady nodded, “that’s what I heard.”
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
