Service Stripe - United States Air Force

United States Air Force

The United States Air Force is the only branch of service which does not issue service stripes. The Air Force Longevity Service Award is issued in lieu. Historically, persons who were in the Army Air Force and then became part of the Air Force when it was separated in 1947 could continue to wear their service stripes.

Famous quotes containing the words united states, united, states, air and/or force:

In the United States there is more space where nobody is is than where anybody is.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

You may consider me presumptuous, gentlemen, but I claim to be a citizen of the United States, with all the qualifications of a voter. I can read the Constitution, I am possessed of two hundred and fifty dollars, and the last time I looked in the old family Bible I found I was over twenty-one years of age.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1816–1902)

When some one remarked that, with the addition of a chaplain, it would have been a perfect Cromwellian troop, he observed that he would have been glad to add a chaplain to the list, if he could have found one who could fill that office worthily. It is easy enough to find one for the United States Army. I believe that he had prayers in his camp morning and evening, nevertheless.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Approximately 80% of our air pollution stems from hydrocarbons released by vegetation, so let’s not go overboard in setting and enforcing tough emission standards from man-made sources.
    Ronald Reagan (b. 1911)

If we wish to know the force of human genius, we should read Shakespeare. If we wish to see the insignificance of human learning, we may study his commentators.
    William Hazlitt (1778–1830)
