Serbian Democratic Renewal Movement

The Serbian Democratic Renewal Movement (Serbian: Српски Демократски Покрет Обнове, СДПО / Srpski Demokratski Pokret Obnove, SDPO) was a monarchist political party in Serbia.

The SDPO was formed in 2005, after a split in the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). The split was the result of major disagreements with the leadership of Vuk Drašković and his influential wife Danica Drašković.

The SDPO last participated in the 2007 Serbian parliamentary election in coalition with the Democratic Party of Serbia and New Serbia. The SDPO was dissolved in 2010.

SDPO was a member of the International Monarchist Conference.

Famous quotes containing the words democratic, renewal and/or movement:

People think they have taken quite an extraordinarily bold step forward when they have rid themselves of belief in hereditary monarchy and swear by the democratic republic. In reality, however, the state is nothing but a machine for the oppression of one class by another, and indeed in the democratic republic no less than in the monarchy.
    Friedrich Engels (1820–1895)

Every epoch which seeks renewal first projects its ideal into a human form. In order to comprehend its own essence tangibly, the spirit of the time chooses a human being as its prototype and raising this single individual, often one upon whom it has chanced to come, far beyond his measure, the spirit enthuses itself for its own enthusiasm.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)

What had really caused the women’s movement was the additional years of human life. At the turn of the century women’s life expectancy was forty-six; now it was nearly eighty. Our groping sense that we couldn’t live all those years in terms of motherhood alone was “the problem that had no name.” Realizing that it was not some freakish personal fault but our common problem as women had enabled us to take the first steps to change our lives.
    Betty Friedan (20th century)
