- At Obassa, the last great battle of the Ashanti War took place, with a spear-wielding force of hundreds of Ashanti tribesmen fought against the bayonets and machine guns of Britain's Colonell James Willocks. At the end of the day, hundreds of Ashanti warriors had been killed.
