Separate Lies is a 2005 British drama film directed by Julian Fellowes who also wrote the screenplay, updating the 1951 novel A Way Through the Wood by Nigel Balchin that had already been turned into a stage play under the title Waiting for Gillian in 1957. The film stars Tom Wilkinson, Emily Watson and Rupert Everett. Separate Lies marked the directorial debut of Julian Fellowes, who has worked mostly as an actor and won an Academy Award with his screenplay for Robert Altman's Gosford Park.
Famous quotes containing the words separate and/or lies:
“The herd of mankind can hardly be said to think; their notions are almost all adoptive; and, in general, I believe it is better that it should be so; as such common prejudices contribute more to order and quiet, than their own separate reasonings would do, uncultivated and unimproved as they are.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
“Imagination places the future world for us either above or below or in reincarnation. We dream of travels throughout the universe: is not the universe within us? We do not know the depths of our spirit. M The mysterious path leads within. In us, or nowhere, lies eternity with its worlds, the past and the future.”
—Novalis [Friedrich Von Hardenberg] (17721801)
