Alex - 13, adopted boy, Jonah, Chip, and Katherine met Alex when they went to a convention for adopted children, Chip's biological brother.

JB- "Janitor Boy,"a trained time traveler with whom the four children communicate to as they travel(as they have nobody else to communicate with in...time)through time and when going through hard times in the present(JB is the nickname that Katherine gave him, as it is mentioned in the 'Found' that he is from the future and has an extremely and rather long name,therefore we would all be wiser to just stick to calling him JB).
