Selective Eating Disorder

Selective Eating Disorder

Selective eating disorder (SED) (also known as perseverative feeding disorder) is an eating disorder that prevents the consumption of certain foods. It is often viewed as a phase of childhood that is generally overcome with age. Children may not grow out of the disorder, however, and may continue to be afflicted with SED throughout their adult lives. Selective eating should not be of a concern as long as there are no negative effects on social, physical and emotional development.

Famous quotes containing the words selective, eating and/or disorder:

The selective memory isn’t selective enough.
    Blake Morrison (b. 1950)

Taking food alone tends to make one hard and coarse. Those accustomed to it must lead a Spartan life if they are not to go downhill. Hermits have observed, if for only this reason, a frugal diet. For it is only in company that eating is done justice; food must be divided and distributed if it is to be well received.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)

In a town-meeting, the great secret of political science was uncovered, and the problem solved, how to give every individual his fair weight in the government, without any disorder from numbers. In a town-meeting, the roots of society were reached. Here the rich gave counsel, but the poor also; and moreover, the just and the unjust.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
