Famous quotes containing the word death:

    On the death of a friend, we should consider that the fates through confidence have devolved on us the task of a double living, that we have henceforth to fulfill the promise of our friend’s life also, in our own, to the world.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    If thee thy brittle beauty so deceives,
    Know then the thing that swells thee is thy bane;
    For the same beauty doth, in bloody leaves.
    The sentence of thy early death contain.
    Sir Richard Fanshawe (1608–1666)

    Of Heaven of Hell I have no power to sing,
    I cannot ease the burden of your fears,
    Or make quick-coming death a little thing,
    Or bring again the pleasure of past years,
    William Morris (1834–1896)
