Scientific University of The South - History

History

The Universidad Científica del Sur was founded in 1996 by a Promoting Association led by José Carlos Dextre Chacón and an Organizing Commission led by Fernando Cabieses.

Two years later, the National Commission on the Functioning of Universities (CONAFU) approved the temporary activity of UCSUR by Resolución N°356-98-CONAFU. Dr. Fernando Cabieses Molina was appointed as rector.

The first official ceremony took place the 26th of March, 1998, in Museo de Osma. The admission campaign started in July.

The first semester began with two schools (Medicine and Engineering) and fifty students. The Campus was originally in Surco district. However, a few years later, it was moved to its current location, close to the Pantanos de Villa Reserved Zone.

In March 2006, CONAFU awarded the Definitive Authorization Resolution to the university, which implies institutional autonomy.

Today, the university has over 1500 students in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

History is more or less bunk. It’s tradition. We don’t want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinker’s damn is the history we make today.
    Henry Ford (1863–1947)

The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
