Schweizer SGS 2-25 - Development

Development

The 2-25 was a new project, a high performance two-place sailplane. Schweizer had hoped to demonstrate the glider at the world competition and then manufacture additional copies for sale.

Schweizer constructed the 2-25 over the winter of 1953-54 and had it ready to fly in the spring of 1954.

The aircraft was of all-metal construction and was the largest glider that the company had built at that time. The 2-25 has a 60 foot (18.29 m) wingspan and a gross weight of 1450 lbs (657 kg). It has triple spoilers, with two on the top and one on the bottom of each wing.

Due to the lack of orders for the design it was never certified and the sole example was flown in the "experimental" category, registered as N91892.

Famous quotes containing the word development:

Good schools are schools for the development of the whole child. They seek to help children develop to their maximum their social powers and their intellectual powers, their emotional capacities, their physical powers.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)

The work of adult life is not easy. As in childhood, each step presents not only new tasks of development but requires a letting go of the techniques that worked before. With each passage some magic must be given up, some cherished illusion of safety and comfortably familiar sense of self must be cast off, to allow for the greater expansion of our distinctiveness.
    Gail Sheehy (20th century)

Ultimately, it is the receiving of the child and hearing what he or she has to say that develops the child’s mind and personhood.... Parents who enter into a dialogue with their children, who draw out and respect their opinions, are more likely to have children whose intellectual and ethical development proceeds rapidly and surely.
    Mary Field Belenky (20th century)
