Human Impact
Lily leaf beetles leave considerable damage on host plants. Managing ornamental lilies has become difficult in regions where lily leaf beetles have established. Damage to the leaves and flowers can also leave the plants weakened and susceptible to diseases such as Lily grey mold.
The Canadian Maritime provinces, especially Fritillaria and Lilium gardens in Halifax, are largely affected by lily leaf beetles. A garden in Waverly, Nova Scotia has reported decline of lily species and cultivars from 50 in 1996 to only one species in 2006.

Famous quotes containing the words human and/or impact:
“An indiscriminate distrust of human nature is the worst consequence of a miserable condition, whether brought about by innocence or guilt. And though want of suspicion more than want of sense, sometimes leads a man into harm; yet too much suspicion is as bad as too little sense.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“One can describe a landscape in many different words and sentences, but one would not normally cut up a picture of a landscape and rearrange it in different patterns in order to describe it in different ways. Because a photograph is not composed of discrete units strung out in a linear row of meaningful pieces, we do not understand it by looking at one element after another in a set sequence. The photograph is understood in one act of seeing; it is perceived in a gestalt.”
