Summit and View
The main summit bears a large cairn on a short rocky ridge. Northward is a saddle, marked by a large cross of stones and then the bouldery climb to Symonds Knott, the north top. This gives views straight down to Mickledore.
Scafell gives a very different view to that from its higher neighbour with Wastwater and the coastal plain given great prominence. There is a fine vista of the Western Fells, together with Bowfell and the Coniston Fells.

Famous quotes containing the words summit and/or view:
“The light that shined upon the summit now seems almost to shine at our feet.”
—Woodrow Wilson (18561924)
“Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
That theres a God, that theres a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
Their color is a diabolic die.
Remember, Christians, Negroes, black as Cain,
May be refind, and join th angelic train.”
—Phillis Wheatley (c. 17531784)
