He is a member of the Bahrain national football team. In the final round of the 2010 World Cup Qualifications he missed a crucial penalty against New Zealand which left the whole nation in sadness after just missing out on the FIFA World Cup for the second time in succession. In 2009 he was nominated for the Asian Player of The Year award.
