Savage Garden is the eponymous debut album released by Australian pop duo Savage Garden. It was released on 4 March 1997 in Australia. The album sold more than 18 million copies worldwide. According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, the album "revealed the influence of 1980s UK pop on Hayes and Jones' songwriting. Famous quotes containing the words savage and/or garden:
“Usually the scenery about them is drear and savage enough; and the loggers camp is as completely in the woods as a fungus at the foot of a pine in a swamp; no outlook but to the sky overhead; no more clearing than is made by cutting down the trees of which it is built, and those which are necessary for fuel.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“It gets to seem as if way back in the Garden of Eden after the Fall, Adam and Eve had begged the Lord to forgive them and He, in his boundless exasperation, had said, All right, then. Stay. Stay in the Garden. Get civilized. Procreate. Muck it up. And they did.”
—Diane Arbus (19231971)
