Main occupations Agriculture, fishing and forestry 33.63%, agricultural labourer 15.4%, wage labourer 4.41%, commerce 17.03%, industry 1.3%, transport, services 12.63%, others 15.60%.

Land use Of the total cultivable land, single crop 18%, double crop 60% and treble crop land 22%. Cultivable land under irrigation 80%.

Land control Among the peasants, 22% are landless, 44% marginal, 26% small, 6% intermediate and 2% rich; cultivable land per head 0.07 hectare.

Value of land The market value of the land of the first grade is approximately Tk 9000 per 0.01 hectare.

Main crops Paddy, potato, chilli, brinjal, mustard, tomato, ground nut, pumpkin, pulse and turmeric.
