Extracurricular Activities

SAR High School, while only in its tenth year, already has many co-curricular activities. Students have the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of publications including Torah Temimah, the Halachic Journal and Dvar Torah newsletter; Ruach Searah, the Dvar Torah newsletter; The Buzz, the official school newspaper; The Science Journal; "JubasNews.com" an online satirical newspaper about SAR High School;Math Mag, an award winning publication run by Deborah Stepelman who also runs the math team competitions; Model United Nations; Debate; Mock Trial; College Bowl; the literary journal, Euphrates; The Israel Activism Committee's HaOketz covering Israel current events; and the Global Awareness and Action Committee's (GAAC) publication. In 2010, during the school's midwinter break, the Spanish Club traveled to Puerto Rico as part of a cultural immersion trip. SAR's Model UN team is one of the most prestigious clubs in the school, placing in second at the Yeshiva University National Model UN competition in 2013. A favorite game among the students and staff is Mystery Maccabee (the Jewish version of Secret Santa). Poems are frequently given in correspondence with the gifts, although this tradition is only done by few elite members of the student body. However, if poems are deemed inappropriate, the student who wrote the poems may be faced with suspension.

Famous quotes containing the word activities:

Juggling produces both practical and psychological benefits.... A woman’s involvement in one role can enhance her functioning in another. Being a wife can make it easier to work outside the home. Being a mother can facilitate the activities and foster the skills of the efficient wife or of the effective worker. And employment outside the home can contribute in substantial, practical ways to how one works within the home, as a spouse and as a parent.
    Faye J. Crosby (20th century)
