Santa Maria Maior (Portuguese meaning Saint Mary the Great) is a civil parish in the eastern part of the municipality and a suburb of Funchal on the island of Madeira. In 2001 there were 13,970 inhabitants living in the community, of approximately 4.86 km² (its density was 2874.49/km²).
