As of Fall 2011, Santa Clara had an enrollment of 5,229 undergraduate and 3,571 graduate and professional students totaling to 8,800 students. 55% of students who attend Santa Clara are from California, 45% are outside of California, 3% of students are from outside the United States. Santa Clara is diverse with Asian's consisting of 15.2%, Hispanics of any race, 18.8%, Caucasian consisting of 38% of the class and two or more races with 7 percent of the total undergraduate class. For SCU's graduate school, Asian's consist of 35.1% of the class, Hispanics, 6.8%, and Caucasians, 37%. SCU's freshman retention rate is a high 93% while graduate rate being 86%. The student to faculty ratio is 12.6:1 with 73% of all classes being fewer than 30 students. Santa Clara offers undergraduates the opportunity to pursue 45 majors in its three undergraduate schools and colleges: the College of Arts and Science, the School of Engineering, and the highly regarded Leavey School of Business. Santa Clara University university also has six graduate and professional schools, including the School of Law, School of Engineering, the Leavey School of Business, the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Jesuit School of Theology (campus located in Berkeley, California). Knowing Santa Clara is a private institution, tuition has been very expensive. For SCU's Undergraduate Program 2012-2013 school year, tuition and fees costs $40,572 per year, Room and Board being $12,276, and books estimating at $5,000 totaling $57,848. Santa Clara's University's undergraduate programs are quite selective but looks at their applicants in a holistic manner: in 2012, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions accepted 51% of applicants, thus making SCU the most selective in its history and making SCU's reputation sharply on the rise. In its most recent annual comparison of admissions selectivity, The Princeton Review gave SCU a high ranking. The admitted first-year class of 2016 had standardized test scores that were well above average: the interquartile range (25th percentile-75th percentile) of SAT scores was 1170-1370 (Math plus Critical Reading subscores), while the interquartile range of ACT scores was 28-32. For students whose schools reported exact class rankings, 46.35% ranked in the 10% of their class.
