Sandy Denny - Childhood

Childhood

Denny was born on 6 January 1947 at Nelson Hospital, Kingston Road, Merton Park, London. She studied classical piano as a child. Her Scottish grandmother was a singer of traditional songs. At an early age Denny showed an interest in singing, although her strict parents were reluctant to believe there was a living to be made from it. Sandy Denny attended Coombe Girls' School in Kingston upon Thames. After leaving school, she started training as a nurse at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Famous quotes containing the word childhood:

    Childhood lasts all through life. It returns to animate broad sections of adult life.... Poets will help us to find this living childhood within us, this permanent, durable immobile world.
    Gaston Bachelard (1884–1962)

    Sensible people get the greater part of their own dying done during their own lifetime. A man at five and thirty should no more regret not having had a happier childhood than he should regret not having been born a prince of the blood.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

    By contemplation’s help,not sought in vain,
    I seem t’ have liv’d my childhood o’er again;
    To have renew’d the joys that once were mine,
    William Cowper (1731–1800)
