San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk (Monet) - San Giorgio Maggiore Al Crepuscolo

San Giorgio Maggiore al Crepuscolo is approximately two-by-three feet and painted in oil on canvas in 1997, on the Venetian mainland, the piece gives an original view of San Giorgio Maggiore. Focusing on the cathedral and bell tower located on the coast of the island, the beauty of the island at sunset is portrayed. San Giorgio Maggiore al Crepuscolo depicts mysterious buildings that seem to magically appear from the surrounding landscape, they almost seem to float in the background. The forms are gently inserted, though not enough to disguise their identity. By not conforming to typical painting methods of the time, Monet’s contrast gained him independence from other Impressionist’s work in Venice.
