Sammir holds a Croatian passport and has expressed his desire to play for the Croatia national football team. On 27 September 2012, Sammir was called to play for Croatia, he was called for game against Wales and Macedonia. He made his debut on 12 October 2012, he entered in 65th minute in a match against Macedonia, which ended 1-2 for Croatia.
